AMD said all of this new hardware would be available on both laptops and desktops at the CES 2022 trade show this year. Many cool things are coming for gamers and content creators. After you see how many tricks AMD has up its sleeve, you might forget that there are still a lot of chips in short supply. they showed a lot of new graphics cards for laptops and a desktop computer with a special 3D chip stacking processor at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. A lot needs to be unpacked, so let’s start right now!
The new Ryzen 6000-series mobile processors are still based on the chip maker’s Zen 3 architecture, which is used in the company’s 5000-series mobile and desktop CPUs. There’s a twist, however. Zen 3+ isn’t a new architecture for AMD. Still, the company says it has made enough changes to improve power consumption, battery life, and performance across the board, especially when it comes to playing games with an integrated graphics card.
Up to eight processor cores and 12 GPU compute units (CUs) with ray tracing in Zen 3+ chips. There will also be 1.5X more memory bandwidth, twice the amount of L2 cache for faster processing and twice the amount of L2 cache. A built-in GPU is based on AMD’s rDNA 2 architecture, used in its current-generation 6000 series of desktop graphics cards. This is also why they can now put ray tracing into its APUs, which are chips with built-in graphics.
RDNA 2 is a big part of that. And AMD is the first chip company to make an APU that can do ray tracing. they says Ryzen 7 6800U APU will have up to 3.02X more frame rates than Intel’s Core i7-1165G7 and Nvidia’s GeForce MX450 2.07X more graphics performance than its Ryzen 7 5800U, depending on the game. Some people don’t know how these new 6000-series chips will compare to Apple’s M1 Pro and Intel chips with Iris Xe.
Our tests found that a Ryzen 7 5800U can run Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 720p with the graphics setting set to Low. The Ryzen 7 6800U should run the game at around 50 fps using the same settings if AMD’s claims are true. In its CES 2022 keynote, they didn’t say how many frames its games would run per second. If you look at the Ryzen 7 6800U on paper, it looks like it could have the same graphics performance as some Intel and Apple processors. We’ll have to test some AMD-based laptops to find out for sure, though
AMD says its new laptop chips can help laptops last up to 24 hours on a single charge. The new 6000-series chips can also run at speeds of up to 5GHz, which they says they can do about 1.3 times more work than their predecessors, the 5000-series Ryzen chips. This means that the new chips have up to eight processor cores, with up to 1.28X multi-core performance, 1.11X single-core performance, and up to 1.28X productivity speed.
Another claim from AMD is that its new Zen 3+ mobile chips can help laptops last up to 24 hours with video playback. This is because the 6000-series mobile processors use up to 30% less power for video conferencing, 15% less power for web browsing, and 40% less power for video streaming. The company says that all the architectural and software changes have led to a huge reduction in power consumption and a boost in battery life. This allows the system to be more efficient based on how people use it.
If the chip is true, then it should be able to figure out what kind of task you’re doing and figure out how much power to use to do it. If you look at what Apple and Intel are doing with their hybrid chips, you’ll be able to see how well they is managing its power, too. 6000-series processors from them are coming out in February 2022, and laptops with them will be available then. They will be able to use USB4, DDR5, HDMI 2.1, PCIe 4.0, and Wi-Fi 6. This isn’t very different from what AMD’s 5000-series processors already support.
AMD had a lot to say about its new desktop processors. In October 2020, the company announced the Ryzen 7 5800X3D desktop processor, part of its 5000 chips. This processor is the first in the series. But this new chip has something they calls 3D V-Cache, which is its version of 3D chip stacking.
With the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD has put the cache dies right on top of each other. In the end, stacking the dies lets AMD add more cache to the same surface area, which can speed up some tasks like archive compression-decompression and games. There’s a good chance you’ve heard of 3D chip stacking before.
If you buy the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU at a store in Spring 2022, it’ll be able to have eight cores and 16 threads. It will run up to 4.5GHz with a boost clock of 64MB of AMD 3D V-Cache and 32MB of 2D Cache. If you have an AMD 400 or 500 series motherboard that has the company’s long-running AM4 socket, it will work with the new motherboard, too.
The 7000-series desktop processors will be moving to AMD’s Zen 4 architecture, which means that those chips will have a new socket called AM5, which is different from the old one called AM2. So not only is AMD changing the type of socket it uses for microprocessors, but it’s also changing the type of socket Intel has used for a long time in its desktop processors. This is the same type of socket that Intel has used for a long time.
The socket type that has changed might be easier to remove the CPU cooler as a side benefit. You might not be afraid of pulling the CPU off with the CPU cooler because you used too much thermal paste on it. If you buy a computer with a Ryzen 7000 processor and a motherboard compatible with it, you should be able to use it sometime in 2022. If you have a computer with an AMD socket AM4 cooler, it will still work with the new computer.
It looks like AND we’ll make more graphics cards for both laptops and phones. RX 6000S series mobile GPUs are the first. We’ve had good luck with laptops like this before, like the Asus ROG Strix G15 and MSI’s Delta 15.
The Radeon RX 6500 XT, a low-end GPU for low-end or budget systems, is also coming. they says the Geforce GTX 1650 is up to 1.6 times slower than the RX 6500 XT when playing games.
